Alterations on the Kulm promise safer flights

Windkanal 2There are still 132 days to the Ski Flying World Championships at the Kulm in January 2016. Alterations at the front end have already started. Hubert Neuper, boss of the Kulm visited the Austrian Team in Vienna to inform the Team Captain Heinz Kuttin in person about the changes at the Kulm. „It extremely motivates us, if hosts listen to us athlets and try to make our flights safer“, explains Georg Schlierenzauer, who was the first to try the new jumping hill on the Kulm in 2015.

“In order to correct the high air level, the front end will be raised for about four metres. That means, that the curve of the flight will remain constant, but the relation of the competitor and the ground will improve“, says Kulm boss Hubert Neuper. “The Austrian Ski Association together with Styria and the Austrian Republic decided to adapt the Kulm to prevent bad accidents as well as falls from a height of 12 metres. The alterations will be finished within a month.“

The boss of the Kulm informed the Austrian Ski jumping team, which was taking some tests in the wind tunnel the Rail Tac Arsenal in Vienna, in person about the alterations on the Kulm. Team Captain Heinz Kuttin confirmed: “It is fantanstic to see that there are hosts, for whom the safety of the athlets is top priority. Giving so much time and attention to our feedbacks and opinions makes the Kulm team very special. Therefore the conversations and discussions between Hubert Neuper and us is a great success.“

“They do not listen to us everywhere“, says Michael Hayböck. “That´s why we are very happy with the changes on the Kulm.“ Team member Stefan Kraft nods in agreement: “It won´t only be safer, but also more fun for us to jump. We are desperately looking forward to the World Championships on the new Kulm.“

“The enthusiasm for the Kulm has already reached the crowd“, says Neuper “10.000 tickets have been sold already. Therefore I asked the athlets to share the enthusiasm for the Kulm from the beginning of the season.“

According to the Team Captain this won´t be a problem at all: “There are some special competitions on the calender with magic attraction, events, which are unique. The Kulm is definitely one of them. The athlets like going there, because it is a real event. In addition to that it is “at home“, in Austria and there are not so many competitons in our country. This season the Kulm with its Ski flying World Championships will be even more important than usual.“
